According the to the P-D, the Missouri Supreme Court has upheld a lower court ruling declaring the Missouri Voter ID law unconstitutional. The Supreme Court ruled 6-1 (Justice Limbaugh in the minority) that the law put undue requirements on voters who would have had to pay for documents (e.g. birth certificates) to obtain a voter ID card.
The Post Dispatch notes "The Court found the requirement violated several provisions in the state constitution. The court said requiring otherwise legitimate voters to obtain an appropriate ID imposed too big a burden on their voting rights."
This ruling means that voters will not need a photo identification in order to vote in the General Election on November 7th, 2006.
